Youtube video
The only video-posting channel accepted at this moment is Youtube, so no VideoGoogle of Blip.tv so far. We do work with Flickr so you could post a video over there. At this moment it is not possible to upload a video to this wiki.
- Copyright
Youtube is very active at this moment and blocking millions of videos because of copyrights.
There are alternatives which cannot be embedded by the way, regretfully. You can, though, hyperlink them or embed the URL: Help embed URL eventueel)
Alternatives:
If you want to see a Youtube film, first thing to do is to have the film uploaded to Youtube.
This is very well explained in this video
So this is the first step. You can practically upload any format to Youtube. Ofcourse if the video is long or high quality it will take time. It will take some time anyway to see the film on Youtube. After uploading, depending on the activity on Youtube it might take minutes to half an hour. For this wiki not real high quality is needed and video's of a few minutes will do.
So after this you can dot two things:
- Of course you can just make a link to Youtube and have a film shown in a new window like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RcrBob4pj0
Much nicer is to use embedding: so have the video integrated on your page.
- Embedding is NOT possible if you have marked the photos or video as 'privat
- If you want to embedd a video you go to edit and make a link there on the desired spot like this:
<youtube>xxxxxxxxxxx</youtube>.
The twelf positions "xxxxxxxxxxx" should be filled in with the digital code shown afther "v=" in the unique internet adress of any movie posted on Youtube. So, you go to Youtube, look for the right video. If this is shown copy the adress (URL) for instance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnGE6wsVBng and paste here only the twelf positions after watch?v= . For instance
At this moment this only works for Youtube, not for any other video-site! Of course you can always make a regular link to other sites like MSN-video if you want to show something posted there: this will be a pop-up (new screen) then, for instance MSN-video
Only use videos which are usefull and interesting. 15 to 20 seconds will do in most cases. And embedded videos will slow down the speed of the article loaded.
Youtube downloaden
Youtube is ever trying to prevent videos from being downloaded. At this moment, though, it seems to be possible without problems youtubedownloader. Small hick-up: videos will be saved as .mp4, not as mpeg.
To convert a video
Almost everything you upload to Youtube will automatically be converted to the right playable format: therefor Youtube is such an amazing good and easy system. You can convert videos yourself as well on your pc from .mov to for instance .avi or .mpg. There is free software available Super Video Converter (25MB). You can use this to convert for free: is is not that complicated, but still.
To flip a video 90 degrees over
You can do this by using download this software (Free Video Flip & Rotate for free and instal it on your pc!
Blanks in names
Pleas do not use any blanks in names you use on the wiki not in articles, nor photo's and not in embedded files. This is one of the very few weak points in Wiki software. It is thus better to write _ or - or anything else other then a blank. The same goes for ' and as they are used differently in Wiki software: don't use them for/in whatever names
